Ironman Triathlon Hacks 40 Tips and Techniques to Improve Your Speed Endurance and Enjoyment Iron Training Tips eBook Brett Lee Scott
I've read this book twice and I even printed out chapters and have it in my nerdy 1st ironman 3-ring binder. The stuff on nutrition is great. Oh and the bike stuff - I didn't know what I didn't know. #Freespeed Yes, buy this book. Great tool! I'm sure I'll be thumbing through it again over the next 8 weeks in prep for IMLOU.Tags : Buy Ironman Triathlon Hacks: 40 Tips and Techniques to Improve Your Speed, Endurance and Enjoyment (Iron Training Tips): Read 8 Kindle Store Reviews - Amazon.com,ebook,Brett Lee Scott,Ironman Triathlon Hacks: 40 Tips and Techniques to Improve Your Speed, Endurance and Enjoyment (Iron Training Tips),IronTrainingTips.com,SPORTS & RECREATION Swimming & Diving,SPORTS & RECREATION Triathlon
Ironman Triathlon Hacks 40 Tips and Techniques to Improve Your Speed Endurance and Enjoyment Iron Training Tips eBook Brett Lee Scott Reviews
Well written and easy reading with great tips you either never thought of or forgot. This is a book to read once a year just to remind yourself what you should be doing. Nice work Brett Lee Scott!
Lots of sound tips and advice. Would have appreciated a little more specific information in the form of examples but I did learn some new things.
Here is another useful resource book of wisdom and advice about getting the most out of triathlon training and racing. Authored by Brett Lee Scott, Triathlon and business coach and ex-pro cyclist and multiple Iron distance finisher, there are nuggets of advice for beginner or experienced triathletes. This is a sample of the tips and techniques that I made note of for future events
• Weekly strength training is important, especially when over 40
• Measure morning weight and resting heart rate daily (if 5 beats higher, rest)
• Fit new cleats pre-race
• Practice cycling on rollers for excellent technique
• Practice exact race nutrition every long ride or run in lead up
• Refuel with 31 Carbs Protein drink or food, and avoid fatty food such as avocado or nuts
• When returning from inactivity, avoid high intensity for as long as you have been sick
• Increase endurance with nitrate rich food e.g. 1/ litre beetroot juice/ 700mg nitrate daily for week before; also spinach, celery and parsley
• Get a good knowledge of the bike course, riding all of it or at least the hills to know how you will attack each climb
• Train to be prepared for time and weather conditions (e.g., swim at 6am, ride at 7am, run in early afternoon, and make some of these bricks, especially during taper)
• Reduce caffeine at beginning of taper
• In taper do short hard “snap” workout with final 10 minutes effort followed by carbo “load”
• 3 days before race reduce processed foods like white breads and pastas, reduce fiber, and increase protein drinks and smoothies with fresh fruits. Focus on raw, fresh and healthy unprocessed foods; lean meats, green leafy veges and dark fruits like berries for antioxidants.
• Day before avoid fiber and reduce solid food (including bread, potatoes, grains, nuts, berries). Consume calories in liquid form.
• Practice transitions with video camera
• Rack bike and count steps to transition seat
• Take a gel ½ hour before race
• Draft in swim, especially the last leg, and build drafting into practice swims
• Set gearing and cadence before hit hills, and keep power on right over the hill
• In run focus on first 16k, then second 16km and last 10 km let the crowd carry you home

Just didn't get anything new from the book. Save your money
Very clear tips
the tips short, concise and easy to implement.
It was a very concise, and straight forward summary of 40 things you can do to race and perform better at Ironman distance racing. I picked up a few new tips and read it in one sitting. For 5 bucks it was an interesting read.
